 ***

Before we go further, let's break the ice! ☃ We called ourselves Supermarket Buddy and our module theme is about Nutrition Facts Label!🔎 We have 6 beautiful and wonderful team members. Let's take a look here:

Just like our group name, Supermarket Buddy, we will help and guide you on how to read nutrition facts labels or food labels correctly. We also will educate you on how to choose a healthy and safe option of foods and beverages while doing grocery shopping. Interesting, right? 😉😊😀

As you can see in the poster above, our team leader is Ain. She is the one who handles our online meeting, divides the task among all team members, and in charge of making the 'Healthier Choice Logo' poster. The second member is Kamilah as our assistant leader. She is assigned to do a video on How to Read Ingredients on the Food Label. In addition, she also prepared an informative poster regarding the 'Carbohydrate Content of Food Label'. Next, Najah is the secretary of our group. Basically, she will take note and summarize the content that we have discussed in all our meetings. She is also the one who was appointed to make the 'Smart Grocery Shopping' video and compare different types of foods in the poster. Then, we have Farihah, Yusrina, and Raihana as our publication and promotion members. They are basically the people that will be in charge of our social media accounts. As for Farihah, she is the one who is managing the QnA session and 'Eat Smart, Buy Smart' Challenge. Next, Yusrina created a poster on the introduction of our group members and a Misleading Nutrition Facts poster. Lastly, Raihana is assigned in handling the teaser poster and video, planning a budget for activities, and designing a poster on 'What is Nutrition Facts Label'.

"TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK"

Just like this famous quote, work as a team is a million times better than working alone. As a team, we share all our ideas, thoughts, and opinions when discussing which will create a better and more interesting outcome for the activities of our program. All team members actively participated in the online meeting by giving advice and supporting each other a lot throughout the process 💪. Besides, we come to a consensus that each member needs to update the online portfolio once per week respectively. In addition, all members acknowledge their responsibility and did their best throughout the process of succeeding in this program. 💪👫

WEEK 1 (22  - 30/9/2020)

Tuesday, 22/9/2020, our very first online meeting through Google Meet. The meeting was led by our group leader which is Ain. She briefed us about the whole e-community program, Family Weight Management that will be conducted throughout this semester. Next, we discussed the name for our module, Nutrition Facts Label, and proposed activities that can be held in order to meet the objectives of the main program. After the meeting and throughout the week, we list out our suggestions on the ideas and content for poster, talk, videos, and challenge through Whatsapp group. On 25/9/2020, we held our second online meeting to discuss our group name and came to an agreement with "Do You Know What You Eat?". Next, we proceed with the discussion on the written proposal and divided the task among the group members. On 30/9/2020, Yusrina who was the compiler sends the group proposal to the secretary of the main program.

WEEK 2 (1 - 4/10/2020)

On this date, Kamilah proposed an idea for the challenge activity. Then, we discussed and gave opinions among ourselves before agreeing on the idea through Whatsapp group. The idea was accepted. Next, we also discussed the name for the talk and challenge that will be held. From this discussion, we came to an agreement to choose 'Eat Smart, Buy Smart' as the title for the talk and 'Food Label Mystery' as the title for the challenge. However, from time to time we did some improvement throughout the way.

 WEEK 3 (5 - 11/10/2020)

Throughout this week, we were informed to update our timeline and title activities for our modules. We did some brainstorming ideas and discussed the title of activities through the Whatsapp group. Then, Ain would update the timeline and title activities through Google Docs provided below:

Timeline for Group 4

WEEK 4 (11 - 15/10/2020)

On 11/10/2020, we were assigned to introduce ourselves to the participants through a poster of our group member. Yusrina volunteered herself to make the poster and all of us send our photo to Yusrina via Telegram. On 12/10/2020, we randomly asked each others' ideas about the name of our group. After discussing, we come out with the group's name which was 'Supermarket Buddy'.

WEEK 5 (19 - 23/10/2020)

19/10/2020, we held our third online meeting to talk about the work division for the new written proposal. The new written proposal had some additional information that has to be done. Throughout the meeting, we change the name of our  talk to 'Food Label Mystery' and the name of the challenge to 'Eat Smart, Buy Smart'. We also discussed the background color for our poster or videos and the arrangement of our feed on social media especially Instagram in order to look organized and neat. On 22/10/2020, Raihana volunteered to make an official logo for our group. As she finished the design, she sent it through the Whatsapp group. Next, she also made a couple of teasers and posters regarding the schedule of the activities that will be held by our group throughout the program.

It was a little bit challenging during this time because the job scope for each member was not clear and the division of tasks was quite hard to decide. Even if we have a timeline during that time, as the task cannot be decided for each member, it was quite hard to start. So, some of us already plan to list out all content that can be discussed, and finally we can divide the task according to the content.

WEEK 6 (26 - 30/10/2020)

Monday 26/10/2020, there were some issues that have been arising among our group members regarding the budget for the speaker and improvements on the content for our modules. As for the budget, we allocated some money for the speaker eventually the talk will be conducted among the group members therefore no money will be needed. So, we decided to rearrange the budget and include the money for prizes that will be given among the participants. Next, we came up with some additional content for our modules which were posters on the types of bread, other names for sugar, carbohydrate content on food labels etc. All of these issues were discussed via Whatsapp group. In addition, any information regarding nutrition fact labels that we found on social media, the Internet, and Youtube was shared in the Whatsapp group for all group members to read.

WEEK 7 (4 - 7/11/2020)

On 4/11/2020, we decided to held an online meeting to discuss more and in detail our program's activities. Since we were all agreed that our previously discussed contents including posters, videos, and talks were not enough to meet daily coaching sessions with participants, so we brainstormed more ideas through the online meeting. We also re-arranged our schedule and timeline to post the contents accordingly on the social media platform. In the next few days, we asked Dr. Hazirah through Whatsapp about the use of the brand's name or comparison between the brand's name in our content. Dr allowed us to mention the brand's name as long as we compare with more brands instead of only two comparisons. She also mentioned that instead of the state the brand's name is better than the other, choose the foods that contain more nutrients than others.

WEEK 8 (9 - 14/11/2020)

All members were actively shared content or ideas they found on the Internet or social media that can be used for our activities through Whatsapp group. Raihana as the compiler of the written proposal reminded every member to send their completed tasks by 15/11/2020 through email. Besides, Farihah suggested making a file in Google Drive for every member to upload all their completed contents including posters and videos. In this way, each member can see and comment on the other's work for better improvements as well as we can arrange the content accordingly.

On 10/11/2020, two of the group members which were Kamilah and Farihah having a shoot for teaser videos that then will be edited by Raihana. The completed teaser videos were sent through the Whatsapp group and all members commented for better advancement. On 11/11/2020, we held our online meeting to discuss the preparation of every member in their assigned works and contents. Since half of our team members were doing clinical during our implementation of modules, so we set a specific date to complete and upload all the contents of posters and videos in Google Drive to lessen their burden during the clinical period soon. We also discussed possible additional contents and re-arranged the timeline, contents, and tasks schedule during our implementation of the module.

On 12/11/2020, Ain was the first member assigned to start wrote our online portfolio and she updated all our preparation throughout this module. During the period, Kamilah also helped Ain in wrote, checked, and corrected the overall online portfolio. On 14/11/2020, Raihana sends the template slide of our online proposal presentation to the Whatsapp group.

For our topic, from our point of view, at first, it was quite hard to develop the topic because we found out that there was not so much that we can discuss food labels. However, we manage to deal with it since we already consulted with Dr. Hazirah and we also tried to come out with other points that related to the food labels.

For all infographics, we used Canva as the platform to do the editing. After that, we will share our progress with each member so that some of them can continue the work.

WEEK 10 (23 - 27/11/2020)

It is our last week before we start our intervention week. We felt so excited to share all the information and infographics that we already prepared with the participant. However, some part of us also felt nervous as we need to guide 300+ participants and to balance clinical placement with community service. However, we always think that sharing knowledge with others gives a lot of benefits not only to the participants but also we will receive a lot of reward or Pahala from Allah.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "God, His angels and all those in Heavens and on Earth, even ants in their hills and fish in the water, call down blessings on those who instruct others in beneficial knowledge." - Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 422

Since 4 out of 6 of our members will start their clinical placement on 30/11. We tried to finish each of our infographics, proposal, and video proposal as soon as possible and alhamdulillah we managed to finish everything by last week. All of it was collected through shareable google meet so that all members can review each other's works first. We gave each other feedback and suggestion on which part to change or edits. We also submitted our proposal and video proposal on 26 November through google classroom. Next, Kamilah did a schedule where each day she assigned few people to handle and post our infographic in telegram and social media. This way will help ease our work later on especially since some of us already start the clinical placement. We also used an application called “feed preview” on our phone to arrange our Instagram feed and come out with a very interesting and catchy hashtag to use. We really hope that everything will run smoothly on the intervention day as we already did preparation in advance. Before we end, I just want to say all the best to Kamilah, Ain, Najah, and Farihah on the clinical placement!

 See you again next week!

Day 1 (2/11/2020)

Good nutrition starts with smart choices in the grocery store.

What did you eat for breakfast today? Although our world is struggling with the Covid-19 pandemic but doesn't make it an excuse for us to be lazy to have breakfast. Hoping that the world will get better soon!

The long-awaited day has arrived. Feelings of excitement and fear began to develop. What made us feared was the lack of response from participants in the group telegrams since we are the last group and to divide time between clinical and community services. Although we encountered some difficulties and obstacles, we managed to overcome it by great teamwork.

Time: 3 pm
PIC: Ain

Before we started our module, we need to make sure that the group before us already wraps up their module. So we communicated with them via WhatsApp to inform us what time they finish, so we can be prepared.

At 3 pm, we started our module by introducing ourselves "the 6 supermarket buddies" and the name of our module which is "you know what you eat". A tentative was given to the participants to give an overview of the whole intervention week. Then we provided a short teaser that we have prepared. This teaser was made to create hype and deliver a message that will grab the participant's attention about our module. Please watch our short teaser below! 😃

We received a very positive and exciting response from the participant. Their response made our day and it gives motivation for us to continue providing them with a lot of information regarding the food label! 🙌

To assess their knowledge regarding the food label, we ask them to answer a few questions regarding the food label. These assessments were made to evaluate their level of understanding of food labels. Below is the attachment of the questions. From the answer we see that 47% of the participant that answer the question read food labels before buying anything, 47% sometimes while 5% buy without looking at the food label. This shows that almost half of our participants are aware about the nutrition fact labels and its importance.

At this time, we already received a lot of questions from the participants regarding food labels and alhamdulillah we managed to answer it with the bits of help from "Mr google" using the trusted and reliable website. The questions from participants were quite challenging and interesting, it helped us to gain more knowledge for us to share with them. Some of the participants were really curious regarding the food labels and asked us variety types of questions.

Time: 5pm
PIC: Raihana

Then, we continue by explaining to them what is food label and what rules and regulations are used in food labeling in Malaysia. This is because people tend to thinks that food labels only involve the nutrition fact label at the back, but the fact is that the food label covered all information that was written or stated on the food packaging. So the information on the infographic gives the participants a rough idea of what is included on the food label and the importance of reading the food label.

Food labels can be very confusing and tricky to understand. But don't worry we will explain it to you one by one using an interesting and creative infographic that is easy to understand! 😃

Time: 6pm
PIC: Raihana

We started our module by explaining to them how to read the nutrition fact label on the serving size and calories part. All of the information on the label is based on the serving size mentioned. If you eat more, that means you will be getting more on what is listed on the nutrition fact label. Then we explained to them what it is means by calories and most of them already know it as they already learn it through the first module which is "calories counting" from the other group.

We already plan that after we explained something, we need to give them 2-3 quizzes regarding the information to assess their knowledge and understanding. The quizzes given is to help them apply the information given when buying their food or before consuming it.

Time: 830 pm
PIC: Kamilah

At night, we used a short video that was created by Kamilah to explain to them about how to read the ingredient list on food label. After a lot of reading through infographics provided, we decided to make a short, fun and informative video on this topic. Although reading infographics can be informative but we think that explains everything in one video can draw the participant's attention to watch during their free time. In addition, we also provided them with some information regarding what is food additives, types of food additives and other names for it. We also provided link regarding the information given for further reading.

As usual, quizzes were given to the participant to assess their understanding regarding the ingredient list and food additives.

Then, we wraped up our day by promoting our talk and list out a summary on topics we already learned today. Besides, we also mentioned the next topics that will be covered tomorrow to make them feel more excited and can't wait for it. 😁

The first day went well, even though only 2-5 people that was responded to us but more than 20 people answered the quizzes that show people read our content but they just did not reply or respond through the chat "silent reader". But, it's okay will still have the spirit to continue giving them more information throughout this module and until the end of our community program. 💪😀

See you again tomorrow with a more interesting topic!!!!

Day 2 (3/11/2020)

New day new topic! ❤

We started our conversation early today, as we received a question regarding gluten from one of the participants as early as 6 am. Then early in the morning also, another participant said that she was excited to learn all new topics today as she said that she received a lot of new informations regarding food labels yesterday. Aww, that made us happy to know that our participant understands and was excited to learn more from us. We were also more excited to provide them with variety of interesting information for them to digest and apply in their daily life.

They also sent us pictures of their breakfast which was all healthy breakfast. Good job epicura! We have succeeded to change their way of eating to healthier eating. The best part of this telegram group was you can find a lot of healthy and creative recipes that was shared by the participants. They were always eager to share their new healthy recipes for us, we learned a lot from the participants. 😍

Time: 9 am
PIC: Kamilah

The first topic of the day is carbohydrates! It is one of the important macronutrients to us as it provides us with 4 calories per gram. In the food label, dietary fiber and sugar are included under total carbohydrate. Hence, in this topic, Kamilah covered sugar and also fiber.

Although sugar is already explained by the sugar group, it is okay to remind them back. As we people tend to forget many things and always need to be remembered. Here, Kamilah explained to them how to differentiate between total sugar and added sugar in the food label with an example.

Therefore, as a good buyer, we must check the ingredient list before buying something. The label may say "no added sugar," but natural sugar may be found in the product. Sugar and carbohydrate need to be consumed in moderation as part of an overall balanced eating strategy. For your diet to be nutritionally sufficient and your weight to maintain within safe limits, foods containing carbohydrates must be picked carefully. You must know what you eat, in order for you to stay healthy!! 😉

We also received a few responses and questions from the participant regarding carbohydrates.

Before moving to the next topic, quizzes were given to them to help them understand better.

Time: 12 pm
PIC: Farihah

Fat fat fat! 😱 People are always scared when they heard about fat. Is fat always the culprit??? 😈But do you know there are different types of fat, there is good and bad fat? Before Farihah explained to them about fat and tips on reading fat in the food label, we received pictures of their healthy lunch. The participants are slowly implementing healthy eating consisting the concept of suku-suku separuh and healthier cooking techniques such as grill, steam etc. 😇😇 We are so happy looking at their progress. 💓

Total fat tells you how much fat is in one serving of the food. Farihah explained to them the differences in fat and cholesterol with examples of the food. In general, when it comes to fat, try to substitute foods high in saturated fat or trans fat with foods rich in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats which is better for your health.

After explaining the differences, we received responses and questions such as below:

Besides, farihah also explained and shared with them about palm oil, which is one of the oil that we as Malaysian always used.

Then as an additional information, she also shared the list of high trans-fat food from RNI (2017).

Then our conversation continued as one of the participants asked regarding nugget (our favorite food hehe😅😅) which was listed in the high trans-fat food. She asked whether the homemade nugget is also considered as high trans-fat food. Then we explain to them why it is considered as high trans-fat food by giving them infographics that were made by Public Health Malaysia. She is so kind; she shared with us her healthy homemade nuggets recipe and asks us to try it because her kids love it. OMG!! We are so excited to try out the recipe.😍

Lastly, of course, there will be quizzes on what has been learned on this topic! Most of the participants got the answer correctly, so it means that they do understand the content we shared to them. 😁

Time: 3 pm
PIC: Raihana

If you feel nuggets are a good and easy option to replace protein sources from meat and poultry think of it think again! Talking about nuggets, the next topic that was shared by Raihana is protein.

Raihana shared with them how to read the protein section in the food label and how to calculate the recommended intake of protein per day for a person. Next, she also explained the function of protein and source of protein.

Protein was such an interesting topic as we received a lot of questions and responses as below.

Besides, there were also interesting tips on healthy eating which is not from us but from the participants!

Since there was a question that asks us regarding what happened if we take high protein diet and does taking protein can make our body"turf". Raihana also shared with them information on a high protein diet that has become a trend nowadays. The popularity of this diet is undeniable especially among practitioners who want to lose weight.

Does it produce positive or negative outcomes? Below is a story from one of the participants who have a friend that  involved in  high-protein diet.

So think again if you want to do a high-protein diet such as Atkins. Some people can't do these kinds of diet as it may impact on their health. Therefore, it is very important for us to lose weight consistently and in a healthier way.

Time: 5 pm
PIC: Raihana

At 5 pm, we shared with them about vitamins and minerals. It is the part where people don’t look at it during purchasing. Vitamins and minerals are included in the type of nutrients that play an important role in maintaining the health of the body. Adequate intake of vitamins and minerals causes the function of body organs and metabolic processes to run smoothly. Besides, vitamins and minerals can also reduce the risk of certain diseases such as malnutrition, anemia, and more.

However, many people tend to consume vitamins and minerals from a supplement. That’s why Raihana shared with them the topic of “supplement vs whole food”. As we can see that that are a lot of supplement brand that is widely sold outside there. Some people think that as long as they take their supplements, it doesn't even matter what they consume. BUT IT DOES MATTER!!

This is because supplements aren't intended to replace food. They can't replicate all of the nutrients and benefits of whole foods, such as fruits and vegetables. Taking a supplement without a diagnosis from the doctor is harmful as excess intake of certain supplements may have the opposite effect.

There are also some people that ask us regarding the famous supplement brand.

They also shared to us story about their friend  who consumed"pill kurus" and Raihana shared to them a bit information regarding slimming supplements.

Then, one of our classmates Farah shared with us a link of youtube by Siti Awe a famous pharmacist who shared about supplements. The content from the video was easily understood and very informative.

Hence, always think wisely before buying or consuming and refer or consult the doctor or expert first before consuming any supplement. 😀

Time: 9 pm
PIC: Raihana

At night, Raihana shared with them what is % daily value and how to read it. Even though this label can only be seen in some products only such as imported products.

Percent daily value can be found in the right column on the label. This percentage is very useful in determining whether our food contributes a lot or a bit of a specific nutrient to your daily diet. For nutrients that you want to eliminate, such as sodium and saturated fat, aim for less than 5 percent. While, aim for 20% or more for nutrients you want to get more of such as fiber, vitamin D, calcium, and iron.

For better understanding, Raihana included an example of how to read the percent daily value through an infographic. This helps the participant to understand better.

Basically, a lot of the participants does not know how to read the percentage daily value before this.

The participants also showed us their product that contain the %DV.

See you again tomorrow with more interesting topics !😁😁

Day 3 (4/11/2020)

We started our interaction with the participants as early as 8am. All the participants were really excited to share their creative and healthy menu for breakfast. Below are some of the pictures of menu that were shared by the participants! There are also some participants who also shared the recipe for their menu. The presentation of their healthy meals were so tempting and delicious!!!! 😋😋

Time: 9 am
PIC: Raihana

We start our third day of intervention week with a sharing by our next group member, Raihana. Our participants are really excited for our next sharing form our group, which is Sodium.

Based on these two infographics, the recommended intake for sodium is 5g per day which is equal to 1 teaspoon of sodium and 2000mg of sodium. Then, we also must familiarize ourselves with other names of sodium to avoid ourselves from being deceived by the ingredients on the food products.

Raihana also explained a little bit about the claim on food label about sodium content in the food products. For extra caution, she also shared some examples of foods that have high content of sodium. Therefore, the participants can be aware of common foods that need to be avoided or taken as little as possible and moderation so that it may not give negative impact to our health.

Furthermore, the participants also asked us some questions regarding the sodium.

Then, the participants also shared some of food products that are available regarding the sodium content.

After the session for this morning ended, Raihana also included some quizzes to assess the  participants.

Alhamdulillah, most of the participants could answer the questions correctly! This showed that the participants understood our today's topic for this morning. Now, we cannot wait for the afternoon session, that will be conducted by Ain!

Time: 2 pm
PIC: Ain

Before we started with our afternoon  session, some participants also shared their interesting menus for lunch!

Now, since our tummy was already happy, let's proceed with our topic for this afternoon which is about Logo on Food Products!

The most common logo that can be found on our local food and drink products are HCL (Healthier Choice Logo) and Halal Malaysia. For HCL logo, it actually indicates that the products with different formulation but same category have its healthier option. For instance, product from category A has the original one and also less sugar. So, the HCL logo can possibly be found on less sugar one, because it is an healthier option rather than the original one.

The participants also shared some of their food products that shows the logo shared by our group member, Ain.

Besides, Ain also shared some common logo that can be found on local products for the participants to visualize the content given.

Next, other important logo that can be found on food products is Front-of-Pack (FOP). Most of us may be aware of this label, but maybe we don't know that it is called as FOP. Fret not, we're the same! Through our sharing about this information, not only the participants got the new information, but also for us too! It's an opportunity for us also to learn more new and interesting topic while sharing it to the participants 😀

To provide better understanding to the participants, Ain also shared some examples on how the FOP can help the consumers to identify the calorie by just looking at the food label on the front pack.

Time: 830 pm
PIC: Ain

Before we end our session for today, Ain also shared some quizzes about logo. These quizzes are to assess how the participants understand about the topic for today.

Then, we also promoted our LIVE talk that will be conducted the tomorrow night! We hope to gain many participants on the day for the Talk! Pray for us!😆

After we're done with our session for tonight, we had a rehearsal session with our beloved dietitian, Puan Rosshaniszan. She volunteered to share with us some tips on the DO's and Don't during the LIVE talk. We're so grateful for her interesting tips that we can use during LIVE talk tomorrow!

Day 4 (5/12/2020)

What is your major concern whenever you go shopping for food or drinks? Of course, we all want to have quality food at an affordable price. While checking for the logos and the ingredients label, have you ever known about the food claims on the food products?

So, on day 4, we share the knowledge to the participants about food claims, misleading food claims, and misleading claims about fat & cholesterol.

As usual, we already engage with the participants as early as 8 am. And the participants were also excited to share their menu for breakfast!😁 As usual, they will always come up with creative and delicious menus for their healthy meals. 😍

Time: 830 am

PIC: Yusrina

On forth day of intervention, we started our morning which is a module about Food Claims. The PIC for this module is Yusrina. She gave a brief explanation to the participants about common food label claims and the meaning behind those claims. For instance the keyword "more/extra" refers to a new formulation that increase or added a particular nutrient that can give beneficial effect for health. Same also goes to other keywords that provide meaningful interpretation for the consumers.

Therefore, the consumers not only learn about the true meaning of the keywords, but also can practice extra caution towards the interpretation of the keywords. Interesting. right? As simple as knowing the food label claims, we can compare two or more products with similar brands but with different formulation. As a result, we can opt for healthier food choice! 😁
Some participants also shared their personal experiences regarding some foods and products that overclaim. In a nutshell, whenever we want to try any food products that claimed to give health benefits to us, we must not forget to also have a consultation with a doctor or any health expert. This is to prevent any potential harm towards our body in the near or distant future. Please be careful!

Time: 2 pm
PIC: Yusrina

Next in the afternoon, we continued with our next module! Since everyone was already full after having their lunch, now we have the energy to proceed with our next topic. Yeay! 💪😆

This topic is a continuation from the previous topic this morning, which is Misleading Food Claim.

The PIC for this afternoon session is also Yusrina. She also gave a brief explanation about some food claims that are available on food products before at that morning. Next, the most concern issue is how some people are deceived by certain food claims especially for those certain people who are not that exposed about nutritional information. Therefore, they tend to trust any information provided on the food products.

To make it worse, some people also make their own interpretations based on the claims that they find on the food products. This is why the true interpretation of the food claims is best to be understood so that we can avoid ourselves from being deceived by those claims!

To clarify the information about the misleading food claims, Yusrina portrayed some examples on how some food claims can result in some misunderstanding to the consumers. Hence, it is pertinent for us to read and check the ingredients on the food label. Some claims may cause misleading to the consumers, but the ingredients will never betray you!

Some participants also showed some food products in which they found the food claims. This showed that they were aware about the label that are available on the products.
Time: 5 pm
PIC: Farihah

Later on, the next topic was covered by our next PIC, which is Farihah. The topic that was shared by her was Misleading Claim about Fat and CholesterolSince there are many claims about fat and cholesterol, so we decided to make it as a new topic for misleading claims. This is to help the participants understand better about food claims that are related to fat & cholesterol.

This infographic shared was about the true interpretation behind the claim that appeared on the food product about fat and cholesterol.

Farihah also gave an explanation about where the cholesterol is produced so that the participants can gain knowledge about the source of cholesterol.

In this case, cholesterol is produced from animal sources which is 'liver', so any plant-based products that claim as 'free cholesterol' is actually true and in fact, they do not contain any cholesterol to begin with! Therefore, we can be more careful when we encounter the products with those claims.

And also, for any products to use certain claims such as 'low in cholesterol' etc, there are also specific regulations that need to be followed in order to produce the claim on the food products. Through this knowledge, the consumers can make  a comparison about the the quantity of the fat & cholesterol in food products especially when they want to control their fat and cholesterol intake in their diet.

Some participants also gave some examples of food claims about fat and cholesterol that they found on food products!

Next, other food claims also can be viewed through the information provided by Food Safety and Quality Division of Ministry of Health Malaysia.

Then, Farihah also shared some sneaky marketing tips that we can be practiced with extra caution from being deceived by those food claims on food products.

Sneaky Marketing Tips

Time: 8.30 pm
PIC: Kamilah & Farihah
A few days before we begin our LIVE talk, we made a viral message to share to our participants and also friends and relatives through Whatsapp, Telegram, Instagram and other social media platform. We really hope that many participants join our program for tonight!

Before the night of the program, we already discussed among ourselves some of the questions from the audience that are related to our topic tonight, which is Food Label! After that thorough preparation last night and rehearsal with our beloved dietitian, Puan Rosshaniszan, we are now ready to go!

While our main 'speakers' for our Talk tonight prepared for their sharing, other members prepared by managing the social media which are Instagram and Facebook account. We were getting ready to answer any questions from the audience. We already divided ourselves among 3 groups, 2 of our members which are Kamilah and Farihah will handle the Talk, while Najah and Raihana will manage Instagram and Yusrina and Ain will manage Facebook.

Alhamdulillah, the talk session ran pretty smooth. While our two speakers focus on the sharing session, other members would pay attention to answer the questions from the audience. Although there was a minor technical error, but we still managed to answer most of the questions from the audience! We are so glad that the knowledge from our sharing that night was easily understood by our participants and audiences. Every group members did a good job for coming this far! 😍

As usual, before we end our session for today, we gave some quizzes to our participants for today's topic.

Actually, we purposely gave some tricky questions to the participants! But, to our surprise, most of them can answer correctly. We're so glad that they can understand our today's topic. Hopefully, they can practice all the knowledge that we share for today!

This also remarked our last activity for our intervention week! 😁

REFLECTION ON INTERVENTION WEEK

Alhamdulillah, 4 days of intervention has passed.  We did great! Good Job team! 💗

At first, we really felt demotivated because we thought negatively that we would not receive any response from the participants as we were the last group of this session 2. But surprisingly, it was not like what we thought and pictured! Alhamdulillah we still received responses from the participants, it might not be as many as session 1 but it was better than nothing! We felt so happy and excited when we received responses from them. One thing we could learn from here is we should stop dwelling on negative thoughts on what will happen. Instead, think positively and be motivated.! This is because what we think is not only reflected in our minds but also in our actions and body. Once you develop a positive attitude you will be free of worries and you can get up and focus to find out the solutions to a problem. Hence, it helps you reach your goals, regardless of how challenging it is. Please, not let negative thoughts dominate you!

Through the intervention week, we felt so happy and great to be able to share a lot of information regarding food labels with the participants. Besides, the participants also responded to us and showed interest in learning this topic. We also received a lot of positive feedback that stated our infographics are easy to understand and very informative. Moreover, they were super supportive and full of curiosity as we received many questions related to the food label throughout the 4 days. There were lots of interaction happened in the Telegram group, it is a sign of a good thing! They were also excited to answer each of our quizzes that were made at the end of each topic. In the telegram group, we were not the only ones who shared the information but interestingly we also received information regarding healthy eating and some tips from the participants. They love to share their story and healthy recipes with us. Lesson learned here, sharing knowledge with each other can helps us to gains more knowledge. Besides, through their question, we have received a lot of new information and learned many things each day. Lastly, this helps us improve our communication skills that are very important as a future dietitian.

Next, every time the participant asked us a question, we made sure to answer it correctly. This is because they relied on us to answer their questions. For the question we did not know the answer, we searched on the internet by using only reliable sources or websites. Besides, each time we wanted to answer the question, we gathered and discussed all information through our group chat first and rewrite them nicely before answering it in the telegram group. Through this way, we could ensure that we answered their questions correctly and comprehensively. The best thing was that we could learn more and received a lot of new knowledge from the process of searching for their answers. That also helped us to gain confidence a little bit through managing the answer from the participants and at the same time we could improve our communication skill by engaging with the participants. Surely, it was a memorable experience for us. Even though it's an online community program, but we're very grateful with the support and commitment showed by our participants.

Since 4 of us were busy with their clinical, we asked our classmates to help Raihana and Yusrina to handle the telegram. We were so blessed to have a very supportive and kinds friend like them. They helped us answer some of the questions from the participants and helped us to hype the group by replying and responding to us. Thank you, EPICURA! Even though we were on different teams, they never reluctant to helps us. Alhamdulillah, we really hope that this friendship will last longer till Jannah. Lesson learn here, it is okay to reach out to others when you need help. Asking for help from others is not a sign of weakness! Most people would be more than willing to support you. If you do not ask for support first, you can't expect people to help you. As a human being, providing and getting support from others is one way for you to build a relationship.

Before the intervention started, we were also scared that we could not juggle between clinical and community as we had a really tight consultation schedule on the weekday. But alhamdulillah, everything went well. Each of us plays our role cooperatively and helps each other through these 4 days despite their busy schedule. Having a busy life does not stop them from their responsibility in community services. Everything went smoothly because we did plan, preparation, and schedule before the day. A plan helps us to work efficiently and effectively during the intervention week. “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail".

In a conclusion, we hope that the intervention week can help to raise the participant's understanding regarding the food label. We also hope that this program will bring a lot of benefits to society.

And for the upcoming challenge week, good luck and all the best for us!

Reflection

For this challenge week, we can see that participants actively participate in the challenge. Although it was the same participants every day, they manage to find many items for this challenge. Our team members were actually quite worried if there is no participation in the challenges but our participants did not disappoint us.

Participants’ passion for maintaining a healthy lifestyle should be praised and we as the committees want to take that as an inspiration for us to continue to give the knowledge about healthy eating and lifestyles to the community. The participants are from various backgrounds. Some of them are working mom, mom with small children, students and office worker, but they manage to join our program despite their busy schedules. This is a good example for us as we can learn how participants manage their time to join all of the activities we have been provided.

On the quiz the session, the participants are very excited to answer all the questions. They ask for some time to study first and the topics that will be on the quiz and for the results, most of them got higher marks than us, the committee. This showed that the participants understand well our module and we are so happy and delighted that we manage to deliver the information well.We also learn and discover many new things from the participants.

We also learn how to have great team work. Although all the team members are far from each other but we manage to conduct meetings and communicate with each other through the online platform. As our team member is currently doing their clinical and community in the same time, it is quite hard to have all members respond together in the telegram chat room but we already divide the task work so the other two members who are not in the clinical session handle the group alone. The other two team members also being really helpful and we are really grateful for that. We really appreciate their support and hard works.

Last but not least, we are very happy that the participants enjoy our program and we hope that they can apply the information given throughout their life and share with other people. We also feel sad to end this program as we have become closer to the participants during these two months. Lastly, we hope more programme like this can be conducted in the future to provide correct information about healthy eating and lifestyles.Thank you and see you again 😃👋.

Love from Raihana, Farihah, Kamilah, Najah, Ain and Yus :)
